Natalie and team very efficient and organised. They did a great job. The tournament was really well run.
The low score for communication was due to the fact that no one was aware that the winners and runners up had to stay for prize-giving . There are not many flights from Durban to East London. We were booked on the last flight but we were told that if Ryan did not stay for the prize giving , not only would he not get his medal ( men's doubles winner ) but he would not get his points either. So I was actually expected to lose the money that I had paid for the flight ( the most expensive route in SA ) as well as pay for another flight and another nights accommodation in Durban. This was totally unreasonable. Ephraim insisted that this he was his mandate and he would show me the sms from the President. He was not at all interested in my problem, it was non negotiable. He seriously expected me to pay R 8000 ( cancelled ticket , new ticket and accommodation. ) for Ryan to get the points that he had earned. Eventually, with 5 minutes remaining to get to the airport on time, as well as me eventually bursting into tears , the boys were given their medals, photos were taken and I sped to the airport. One of the officials told me that it is in the rules that the winners have to stay , but it was never enforced before. How are we supposed to know that now suddenly the "rule" is going to be enforced ? I have no problem with the rule per se , it is the lack of communication that I have a problem with . Why were we not informed that this would be the situation ? I also have a problem with the complete lack of empathy as well as initiative. I was told that there were other people in the same position and if I was allowed to leave then it would create an issue. There are lots of flights from Durban to Johannesburg, but not to East London. I am a single mother and taking my son to these tournaments is very expensive for me and then to be expected to spend another R 8000 for an extra hour is so unfair. I was completely traumatized by this experience. Was I supposed to leave and then Ryan would get no points ( after I had already spent so much money bringing him ) . A horrible experience that I will never forget .
